milsil User Guide

This page is a guide for visitors trying online escape rooms for the first time and for players deciding which of the public rooms to choose. Before browsing the room list and detail pages, it walks you through the service structure, how to pick a difficulty, the hint policy, and what record information is publicly visible.

What is an online escape room?

milsil's escape rooms combine the tension of a physical room escape with digital puzzle interactions. After entering a room, players explore the scene, collect clues, and solve puzzles to complete their escape. Depending on the genre and difficulty, the experience can lean toward narrative-driven, puzzle-driven, or atmosphere-driven rooms.

milsil is not just a site for playing — it is also a platform where creators can build and publish their own rooms. As a result, each room can differ slightly in the texture of its world, its puzzle design, and how hints are provided, so reading the public detail page first is important to understanding those differences.

“milsil” is the romanization of the Korean word 밀실 (密室). It means “conclave” — a sealed room shut off from the outside. The brand shows as “밀실” in Korean and “milsil” in English.

How to pick a difficulty

Difficulty 1-2

Suited to first-time visitors, teams playing casually with friends, and users who want to get a feel for the atmosphere in a short time.

Difficulty 3

Suited to players who want a balance between puzzle-solving and theme immersion. The most comfortable starting point when first choosing a public room on milsil.

Difficulty 4-5

Suited to players comfortable with long chains of reasoning, connecting multiple clues, and repeated attempts. It's a good idea to review the hint policy and average records before playing.

How to pick a genre

Mystery · Detective

Suited to you if you enjoy reading context through documents, dialogue, and the flow of events. The structure connecting clues and story immersion matter most.

Horror · Thriller

Suited to players who value tension and atmospheric staging. If the visual elements and tone are strong, check the room's detailed description first.

Fantasy · Sci-Fi · Experimental

Suited to you if you prefer unique worlds and unconventional puzzle structures. The public genre tags and creator introduction help set expectations.

Reading hints, records, and the leaderboard

The number of free hints can differ per room on milsil, and some rooms may offer unlimited hints. The hint policy shown on the room detail page is an important basis for judging the perceived difficulty before playing. When the average escape time, total number of challengers, and clear rate are shown together, you can interpret how challenging a room is in a more rounded way.

The leaderboard mainly highlights fast escape records, and replays are switched to practice mode and may not be reflected in the actual ranking. Full reviews are currently provided only to those who have completed the room, creators, and operators, so for non-logged-in visitors the room description and public statistics are the key material for exploration.

Pre-play checklist

  • Check the room detail page's genre, difficulty, base escape reward, number of free hints, and leaderboard atmosphere first.
  • Full reviews are shown on a limited basis only to those who have completed the room, creators, and operators.
  • Logging in is required to start playing, but most exploration information can be read without logging in.
  • Replays may be switched to practice mode and are not reflected in records or rewards.

Currency system

milsil's currency is Mion. Mion is used to open additional hints and can be earned through play and community activity. When you escape a room on your first real play, a base escape reward is granted depending on the difficulty, and if you escape quickly and rank highly, the final reward can be larger.

Mion

Mion

Earned/spent currency

Earned through escape rewards, ranking rewards, and review/share rewards, and used to open extra hints after all free hints are used.

Free hint currency

Free hint currency

Per-room currency

The number of free hints you can use first in each room. It is shown with a silver coin icon on the room detail page.

Rewards are not granted for test plays or replays. Review-writing rewards and share rewards are also processed based on the first qualifying condition to prevent duplicate payouts. The current reward standard applies as a common service-wide policy, and you can check a room's actual base reward in the reward notice next to the difficulty on the room detail page.

Using and providing hints

The amount of free hints provided differs per room. Creators can set the number of free hints when building a room, and the room detail page shows the number of free hints available in that room with a silver coin icon. Rooms set to unlimited let you keep using free hints.

After using all free hints, opening a new hint deducts Mion. Hints you have already opened, or hints you re-check after completion, are not charged again. If you run low on Mion, additional hints won't open, so when choosing a higher-difficulty room it's a good idea to check both the number of free hints and your current Mion balance.

Frequently asked questions

What does the difficulty rating mean?

Difficulty is shown as 1 to 5 stars; the higher the number, the more complex the clue connections and reasoning. 1–2 are light entry-level rooms, 3 balances puzzles and immersion, and 4–5 suit players comfortable with long reasoning and repeated attempts.

How do I play?

Once you enter a room, you explore the scene, gather clues, and solve puzzles to escape. You need to log in to start playing, but you can browse the room list and details without logging in.

How long does an escape usually take?

It varies by room, but a single playthrough can take anywhere from about ten minutes to over an hour. Check the room's average escape time and clear rate to estimate how long it may take.

Can I play without paying?

Yes. Public rooms are free to play, and you can use the free hints each room provides. You only spend Mion, the platform currency, when you open extra hints after using up all the free ones.

Does replaying update my record?

Replaying a room you've already escaped switches to practice mode, so the record and rewards are not reflected on the leaderboard. Rankings are tallied fairly using only your actual first attempt.
